Peel Region · The Burlington Office
Coming from Brampton or Mississauga.
Patients from Brampton and Mississauga are seen at Dr. Justin Khetani’s office at 1435 Plains Road East, Unit 5, in Burlington. An OHIP-insured assessment begins with a referral from your physician or nurse practitioner, faxed to (905) 639-2253. Consultations and follow-up visits are held at the office; surgery takes place in hospital in Burlington or Hamilton.
Getting Seen
A referral from your own physician.
Referrals are accepted by fax from physicians and nurse practitioners anywhere in Ontario, so the family physician, walk-in physician or nurse practitioner you already see can send yours.
-
Your physician faxes the referral
To (905) 639-2253. A CT report where one exists, the medication history and any urgency marked on the referral let the office book the right appointment on the first call.
-
The office calls you
The office contacts you directly to arrange the consultation and to say what to bring. It tells you the expected wait when it calls.
-
Your consultation
History, examination and nasal endoscopy where indicated, with imaging arranged if required. You are under no obligation to decide anything at the first visit.
-
A note back to your physician
The findings, the diagnosis and the plan are sent to the referring clinician after the visit.
Physicians and nurse practitioners: what to include on the referral. For rhinoplasty sought to change the appearance of your nose, no referral is needed: request a consultation directly.
Coverage
What OHIP covers, and what is private.
- Medical care
- Insured under OHIP when medically necessary — OHIP pays the surgeon and the hospital.
- Cosmetic rhinoplasty
- Surgery to change the appearance of the nose is not insured by OHIP. Fees are quoted in writing after assessment.
- Both at once
- Where one operation addresses both breathing and appearance, the insured and uninsured parts are identified separately, in writing, before anything is decided.
Priority is set by clinical urgency and hospital scheduling; paying a fee never changes a person’s place in line for insured care. How rhinoplasty fees work · combined operations and Ministry pre-approval.
Where You Are Seen
One office, and surgery in hospital.
The office
1435 Plains Road East, Unit 5, Burlington, minutes from Highway 403. Brampton and Mississauga are within about an hour’s drive. Map and directions.
Parking
Parking is available at the Plains Road East location. If you have mobility needs or questions about the easiest route in, the office will walk you through it when your appointment is arranged.
Your first visit
Appointments are required; the office does not accept walk-ins. Bring your health card, medication list, and any prior imaging or operative records.
Surgery is hospital-based: elective surgery at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, with complex and skull-base procedures at Hamilton General Hospital as part of the McMaster Skull Base Group.
Planning the Trips
Plan for the follow-up visits, too.
Follow-up visits are scheduled as part of the procedure, not as an optional extra, and they take place at the Burlington office. Keep these appointments even if you feel well. If you are travelling some distance, mention it when your consultation is arranged so the visit can be planned with that in mind.
After septoplasty, the nose is not packed. Soft splints (Doyle splints) are usually placed inside the nose to support the healing septum, and they are removed at a follow-up visit: often about one week after surgery, and in rare cases after two to three weeks. You are told before surgery what to expect.
Nasal and sinus procedures are usually performed as day surgery under general anesthesia, and you go home the same day. Arrange for a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the first night. Your written instructions are specific to your operation and take precedence over any general guidance on this website.
Before You Ask for a Referral
What the practice sees, and what it doesn’t.
The practice centres on the nose and sinuses, and the office also sees hearing loss and tinnitus. It does not offer surgery for children, head and neck cancer surgery, or sleep surgery for snoring and sleep apnea. What is seen here and what is not.
A blocked nose
Deviated septum and nasal valve collapse, treated from medication to septoplasty or turbinate reduction.
Sinus disease
Chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps: medical therapy first, then endoscopic sinus surgery or biologic treatment where indicated.
Shape & smell
Rhinoplasty, with appearance and breathing planned together; septorhinoplasty; and loss of smell.
